How Your Moccasins Are Made

1

Selecting the Sacred Hide

Everything begins with honouring the animal. We carefully select premium quality cowhides, moosehides, deerskins, elkhides, and rabbit pelts. Each hide is vetted manually for natural consistency, strength, and flawless texture to guarantee absolute longevity and comfort. Likewise, our ethically sourced rabbit fur is chosen for its natural consistency, ensuring ultimate warmth.

Indigenous Made

Skillfully handcrafted in Canada, empowering traditional artisans and local communities.

Midnight Suede

Premium, long-lasting Canadian suede dyed in a deep, sophisticated black.

Black Rabbit Fur

Trimmed with luxuriously dense, genuine black rabbit fur for ultimate ankle warmth.

A Canvas of the Night Sky

The deep, raven-black suede provides a dramatic and elegant backdrop for the traditional hand-sewn glass beadwork. The intricate bead patterns pop vividly against the dark leather, much like stars illuminating the night sky.

Complementing this vibrant artistry is a collar of genuine black rabbit fur. Prized for its dense, cloud-like texture, this luxurious fur trim not only adds an element of high-end sophistication but also acts as an incredible insulator, making these slippers perfect for unwinding after a long day.

Engineered for Cozy Elegance

  • Black Suede Leather: Premium, richly dyed Canadian hide that offers exceptional durability while remaining soft enough to mold to your unique footprint.
  • Two-Piece Assembly: Crafted with a robust two-layer construction, ensuring these slippers maintain their structure and provide reliable indoor wear for years.
  • Plush Fleece Interior: Fully lined with thermal fleece to trap body heat, ensuring your toes stay exceptionally warm during cold seasons.
  • Genuine Rabbit Fur: An ultra-soft, ethically sourced black rabbit fur trim provides a draft-blocking seal around the ankle.
  • Vibrant Beadwork: Individually hand-beaded motifs guarantee that every single pair is a unique piece of wearable Canadian art.

Perfect Footwear Fit

Sizing & Fitting Wisdom

Because authentic Canadian leather stretches, finding your true size in Spirit Moccasins differs slightly from modern stiff department store footwear.

How do I determine my moccasin size?
To find your perfect, snug glove fit, use your standard street shoe size and follow our simple sizing rules:

Women's Sizing: If you wear a standard whole size, order your exact size. If you wear a half size (e.g., 7.5), order down to the nearest whole size (Size 7).
Men's Sizing: If you wear a standard whole size, order your exact size. If you wear a half size (e.g., 9.5), order up to the nearest whole size (Size 10).

Traditional Canadian leather has natural stretch and memory—it is designed to feel snug at first, but will adapt beautifully to your unique footprint within a few days of active wear.

If you are still unsure, use our interactive size chart located in the footer to help.
Should I wear them with or without socks?
Traditionally, moccasins are designed to be worn barefoot to enjoy the organic warmth of native furs and natural hides. However, they easily accommodate socks. If you plan to wear thick winter socks, please follow these guidelines:

If you wear a whole size: Stick to your standard whole size (the premium leather will naturally stretch and yield within a few days to comfortably accommodate the extra sock volume).
If you wear a half size: Order up to the next nearest whole size (for example, if you wear a size 7.5, order a Size 8).
Earthy Longevity

Caring for Your Moccasins

Respecting your moccasins ensures they remain a loyal companion for decades. Learn how to clean and care for traditional hides.

Can I wear my moccasins outdoors?
Most of our moccasins are built as soft-sole indoor footwear. Wearing them on gravel or concrete outdoors will accelerate wear on the sole. If you want outdoor wear, look for models specially fitted with durable crepe or rubber soles.
How do I safely clean suede or moosehide?
Never submerge traditional moccasins in water. Each natural material requires specific, mindful care:

For Moosehide & Grain Leather: Wipe away surface dirt with a soft, slightly damp cloth. You can occasionally use a small amount of high-quality saddle soap, but avoid heavy commercial chemical solvents.
For Suedes: Allow any mud or wet dirt to dry completely first. Then, gently brush clean using a dedicated suede brush to restore the soft, natural nap.
For Fur & Sheepskin Lining: Gently shake out dust and shake clean. Never apply liquid water or soaps directly to natural wild trims or wool linings.

If you are unsure how to care for your moccasins, visit our interactive Moccasin care guide in the footer.

Sustainable & Mindful Harvesting

By prioritizing natural, locally supplied Canadian hides and collaborating with Indigenous-owned workshops, we align our footwear footprint with traditional respect for animals and the preservation of the great Canadian outdoors.
